On 27th November 2024, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, took part in the 10th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations held in Cascais, Portugal, website of the Korsun Diocese reports.
The Forum theme was “United for Peace: Restoring Trust, Reconfiguring the Future.” Among those who spoke at its opening were UN Secretary-General António Guterres, King Felipe VI of Spain, President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as well as ministers and diplomats from the UN member states, leaders and representatives of the world religions, and prominent public figures.
The Patriarchal Exarch delivered a speech during the Forum session entitled “Good Practices and Recommendations on Enhancing the Response and Resilience of Religious Facilities and Communities to Terrorist Threats and Attacks.”
Metropolitan Nestor dwelt on the challenges facing the dioceses and parishes of the Exarchate of Western Europe in recent years and drew the participants’ attention to numerous cases of oppression against the clergy and laity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church caused by the discriminatory policy of the Ukrainian authorities.
